Stephan Zebe

Stephan Zebe has been writing and publishing gospel music for choirs since the 1980s. He was born in the German town of Cottbus in 1966. There he learned the piano and double bass, grew up singing in choirs and wrote for various ensembles as a teenager. He later studied church music in Halle (Saale). Inspired by the self-image of gospel music as church music, he founded the first gospel choir at the Halle church music college. He shaped the gospel choir scene in Hamburg and Berlin and founded networking initiatives.

Stephan’s influence from Black Gospel is unmistakable in his compositions. In his choirs and workshops, he achieves a modern, powerful choral sound. He reached his publishing breakthrough in 1993 with his series of “Ultimate Gospel Choir Books” under the pseudonym Jeff Guillen.

Stephan lives and works in Berlin and Napier/New Zealand and is active with ZebeMusic as a composer, arranger and editor of his own and other people’s works. He works as a choir director and pianist, teached at the Berlin University of the Arts and is an experienced workshop leader.
